About the Trails Trust of Humboldt Bay
Humboldt County is a magnificently beautiful place to live and to visit. There is great public interest in the development of multiple use trails in Humboldt County, particularly around Humboldt Bay. The Trails Trust of Humboldt Bay was created out of need for an advocacy and fundraising organization that can function separately from government to accomplish the goal of trail development now and into the future in the greater Humboldt Bay region.
The Eureka Trails Committee was established in October 1999 by the City of Eureka to further develop and enhance the quality of life for its residents through trail development. There is also a non-profit agency in the region that plans and builds grant-funded trail projects. Though many ideas have been brought forward to government entities and non-profits, budgetary constraints have made the trail development progress painfully slow. The Trails Trust of Humboldt Bay was formed in July 2004 for the purpose of both advocating and educating the community about potential projects for trail development and to raise necessary funds for the planning and permitting stages. Our goal is to partner with government, business and existing non-profits to get the trails started. Our desire is to help our community discover, learn about and enjoy the unique attributes of the region, particularly around Humboldt Bay and at the same time generate public support for these projects. There is significant community interest in a membership drive to raise matching dollars for our first project and others to come in the future. The majority of funds to actually develop this initial project will be secured through grants from state and matching funds. Trails Trust funds will provide both community matching dollars and funding for trail permitting and planning phases.
